FISHING IN MOUNTAIN AND FORESTS - ARGENTINA

In Salta and Jujuy, the mountain forest allow for the miracle of fishing for dorados and rainbow trout in areas close to each other.

GETTING THERE
The centers used as a base for fishing in this area Salta, Jujuy and Orán.

WEATHER
At dawn very low temperatures have to be endured and in the afternoon it is necessary to fish wearing very light clothing.

LODGING
In Salta, Jujuy and Orán; in the best fishing places the only accommodation is at rough camping spots.

SPECIES AND METHODS
Rivers and streams close to Orán have very large dorados and rainbow trout. Some can only be reached by helicopter or after a one-day trip on a four-wheel drive truck. These watercourses are ideal for fly-fishing or spinning as the current is very strong as they are still mountain rivers. On the Bermejo it is also possible to catch robalos, giant pacu and cat fish. On the Juramento river, there are not only very aggressive dorados but also trahiras (in El Tunal and Cabra Corral dams) eagerly sought by fly and spinning fishermen.

SEASON
Fishing is restricted to the months of March to May and August to November. The first gap results from the extremely cold weather; the second, from the rains that spoil the waters.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

The provinces of Salta and Jujuy have regulations that are updated yearly.
