Los Glaciares National Park, at the Southern Patagonia, is much more than
the "rivers of ice" that give
name to the territory On the park's Northern area, the overwhelming masses
of the Fitz Roy cluster rise between the continental ice-field and the
vast Patagonian steppes. The Fitz Roy and Torre peaks, as well as many
granite "needles" are top challenges for professional mountaineers,
many of whom payed the wager with their lives! But this fascinating area
is not just for the expert climbers. Paths amidst the valleys and trails
into woodlands allow you to enjoy this unique mountain scenery at close
range
DAY
1: EL CALAFATE.
Reception at Río El Calafate, by the shores of Argentino Lake.
Dinner. Overnight accommodations at hotel. (D)
DAY
2: PERITO MORENO GLACIER- EL CHALTEN.
Early morning visit to the Southern area of Los Glaciares National Park,
for admiring the spectacula Perito Moreno glacier, trekking its ice surface
aided with crampons. Picnic and return to El Calafate. Drive through the
endless Patagonian steppe, habitat of guanacos, armadillos, Darwin's rhea,
arriving to the tiny village of El Chaltén, at the foot of the
Fitz Roy massif. Overnight in Lodge (B,L,D)
DAY
3: TREKKING TO THE FOOT OF FITZ ROY.
A walk through hills, beech forests and mountain creeks across the Blanco
River and mountain ponds and lakes. Arrival to Laguna de los Tres, at
the base of the awesome Mount Fitz Roy (11,000 ft. a.s.l.) Return to lodge
. Overnight accommodations. (B,L,D)
DAY
4: TREKKING TO TORRE LAKE.
Trekking along the Fitz Roy river valley, across enchanted sceneries,
upto Laguna del Torre, where icebergs fallen from the hanging glacier
at Cerro Torre (10,000 ft. a.s.l.) float. This peak, capped with an ice
mushroom-shape, is one of the toughest climbs in the world. Return to
Fitz Roy Inn, overnight accommodations.(B,L,D)
DAY
5: TREK AT HUEMUL GLACIER.
Drive upto Lago del Desierto, then a simple trekking to Huemul Glacier.
Drive back to El Calafate in the afternoon, overnight hotel accommodations.

6: Transfer to El Calafate airport for departure
flight. (B)
