SALTA: L OCATION AND CHARACTERISTICS

The province of Salta is situated in the northwest of Argentina. It is one of the biggest provinces in the country, with a surface of 154.775 km2 it is the sixth one in size.
It is surrounded by three countries: Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay; and six Argentinean provinces: Jujuy, Formosa, Chaco, Santiago del Estero and Catamarca.

Salta city is located at 1.187 metres above sea level. It is connected with the rest of the country through different National Roads: N° 9 and N° 34 to the South; N° 81 and N° 16 to the East, N° 40 to the South West; N° 9 and N°34 to the North up to the border with Bolivia; and N° 51 to the West up to the Chilean border, and also through the International Airport "El Aybal" with direct flies within the country and to the Bolivian cities of Santa Cruz de la Sierra and La Paz.

Due to its various geographic and climatic conditions, Salta is one of Argentina´s most interesting tourist attractions offering wealth of amazing tours.
From the very cold Andes and Puna to the sub-tropical jungle, Salta boast between mountains and fertile valleys with pleasant temperatures and sun all year round.

Its provincial hospitality along with its rich cultural inheritance, find expression in its folk music and moving religious celebrations.
Salta has a heroic past: many battles were fought on its territory to obtain argentine independence and it was cradle of an ancient pre-Hispanic culture.
Old country houses and farms converted today into hostels evoke old customs and invite us to adventure.
