EXCURSIONS FROM EL CHALTEN
FITZ ROY MOUNT AREA

FROM EL CHALTEN; CAPRI LAGOON
It is a one and a half hour walk from El Chaltén up hill along a winding trail with Mount Fitz Roy always on the left. The Lagoon is a beautiful and colorful spot with a great variety of fowls. Camping is allowed.
According to weather conditions, there is an excellent view of the mountain range.

TREKKING TO FITZ ROY: BLANCO RIVER BASE CAMPSITE
Returning down the trail that led to Capri Lagoon, you will find a sign that shows the way to the base of Mount Fitz Roy. This road goes across several streams. Before crossing Blanco River there is a turn off that leads to the first campsite.
Nevertheless, Blanco River Campsite (only for mountain climbers) is the ideal spot to experience a high mountain climbing atmosphere, and is across Blanco River.
The campsite is surrounded by mountains, woods and river and only an hour from De los Tres Lagoon, the closest point to Fitz Roy which can be reached on foot with no special gear.
If you continue along the left bank of Blanco River up to Electrico River you will encounter another wonderful spot, Piedras Blancas Lagoon and Glacier.

FITZ ROY: TORRE LAGOON (LAGUNA TORRE)
After a three hour hike along different landscapes, you arrive at Torre Lagoon, a really impressive spot. Camping is allowed at De Agostini Campsite, an excellent place to relax.
Both glacier and mount Torre can be viewed from the lagoon.
There is also a trekking excursion on this glacier, worth considering.
