TERMAS DE PUYUHUAPI LODGE & SPA
A Wonderful Visit to San Rafael Glacier and more...

TERMAS DE PUYUHUAPI LODGE & SPA: The Location and Access
Patagonia is powerful, fascinating and mysterious. In the solitude of the Americas, in a land yet to be tamed, and where nature is still pristine, you'll find an unexpected destination…Puyuhuapi Lodge & SPA.

The Aysén region, located between latitudes 43º38' and 49º16' South, is in the southern extreme of Chile. Here along Austral Road, the Andes Mountains are ever present and patchworks of native forests cover its slopes. Eternal snows top the peaks, and the land is interwoven with glaciers, fjords, rivers, and channels. This is 1,250 km of nature at its purest…

Daily flights from Santiago (3 hours) or Puerto Montt (50 min) to Balmaceda, upon arrival 55kms by car along paved road, (45 minutes) to Coyhaique, capital of the region.

The transfer then continues 210 kms by the Carretera Austral to the north, half of the route paved and the other half unpaved but in very good condition.

From October to April 3 night programs beginning on Tuesdays and Saturdays will transfer in by sea on our comfortable catamaran Patagonia Express; reception in Balmaceda airport by one of Patagonia Connection guides, 45 minutes transfer to Coyhaique, welcome drink and then continue 1:15 to Puerto Chacabuco. Road completely paved. In Puerto Chacabuco passengers take the Patagonia Express, enjoying a quiet navigation by austral fjords (5 hours), and arriving directly to the dock of the Lodge in Dorita Bay.
The most comfortable and fastest way to get to the Lodge is to charter a private airplane from Puerto Montt directly to the aerodrome of Puyuhuapi (1:15 hour flight). From the aerodrome we coordinate a 15min. boat transfer to Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa.

PHOTOGRAPHY SAFARI AND WORKSHOP
PROGRAMA : "Al Sur del Silencio"
7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS

Day 1 (Wednesday) BALMACEDA - COYHAIQUE

Reception in the Balmaceda Airport. Transfer to hotel, presentation and preliminary conversations.

Day 2 (Thursday) COYHAIQUE - PUYUHUAPI

We begin our journey along the Austral Highway after breakfast, heading north toward the Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa. We will make photographic stops at specific points along the way, assisted by the instructor. The trip takes approximately 6 hours, a large part of which is along dirt roads that wind their way through beautiful landscapes and dense forests surrounded by mountains and cliffs. In the afternoon we arrive at the Río Unión pier and board boats for the 10-minute fjord crossing to reach the Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa.

Day 3 (Friday) PUERTO PUYUHUAPI Y FIORDOS

In the morning, a photographic session with "Puerto Puyuhuapi - A wooden village." Here we can photograph the town's quaint wooden constructions, the pier with its colorful boats, and its particularly beautiful surroundings. We'll spend the afternoon photographing "The Water of Life": sailing toward the Jacaff Channel to photograph colonies of marine birds, which will likely include a glimpse of the Flying Quetru (Taycheres patachonicus), one of the so-called "steam ducks" due to their preference to jet through water at high speed rather than fly. We will also approach the rock that is home to a large colony of cormorants.

Day 4 (Saturday) QUEULAT NATIONAL PARK
We travel first by boat and then overland to the Portezuelo sector of the Queulat National Park to photograph "The Enchanted Forest." We'll walk along a highland trail that traps the clouds, giving rise to an exceptional botanical display. At the end of the hike, we come to a large glacial valley where we can climb to a small lagoon with small floating icebergs. Later we'll stop to photograph the "Iceberg Lagoon" in the park's Hanging Glacier Sector. And there will still be time to enjoy a relaxing massage or thassotherapy session in the complete SPA when we return to the Puyuhuapi Lodge.

Day 5 (Sunday) PUYUHUAPI
In the morning, a pleasant walk through the woods "In Search of the Chucao" to photograph trees, ferns, native shrubs, and spotting wild, endemic birds, including the friendly "Chucao" (Scelorchilus rubecula) that enlivens the forests with its intense and characteristic song. In the afternoon we'll return to the Queulat National Park "On the Way to the Hanging Glacier Overlook."

Day 6 (Monday) PUYUHUAPI - LAGUNA SAN RAFAEL - PUERTO CHACABUCO
FULL DAY : Catamaran excursion to San Rafael Lagoon, without instructor.
Our day begins early. At 7:00 am we board the PATAGONIA EXPRESS catamaran and begin our journey through the austral fjords on our way to the San Rafael Lagoon. Sailing through a number of channels, we finally reach the Témpanos River, which leads us to the San Rafael Lagoon, home to a millenarian glacier.
After a visit of approximately 2 hours, we begin our return trip, arriving in Puerto Chacabuco around 10:30 p.m., where we will be transferred to the hotel in this port.

Day 7 (Tuesday) CHACABUCO - BALMACEDA

After breakfast, our bus takes us back along the route that follows the Simpson River, from Chacabuco to Coyhaique and then on to the airport in Balmaceda (approx. 2 hours).
