THE LOA RIVER

Chile´s longest river and the only one to reach the Pacific from 20-26°S, the Río Loa has long been occupied by indigenous cultures, and has played a key role in trade between the coast, the interior oases, and the Altiplano. Prehispanic pueblos, rock art and other archeological sites make the Río Loa and its tributaries top destinations for tours departing from Calama and San Pedro de Atacama.
