For ten years Buenos Aiures has enjoyed its criollo Sundays in the traditional fair of Argentine Popular Handicrafts and Traditions, the Mataderos Fair, "a site where countryside and city merge". The sale stands at the Fair are placed in the sahde of aged tipas trees, surrounding the monument to the Resero (herdsman) across the Cattle Market. It offers a wide range of traditional, indigenous and criollo handicrafts made in silver, wood, knitted fabric, ceramics, etc. The visitor may also enjoy a folkloric festival of music and dances, admire innumerable gaucho skills where tha pato national game, the carrera de sortijas (racing on horseback the rider hast to try and string at the end of a spear ofr lance a ring that is hanging from a ribbon at a certain height), he pulling of reins and trimming competitions are sure to be seen. You can play sapo (game which consists in trying to introduce, from a distance, a token or coin through the open mouth of an elevated metal toad), take part in the cinchada (tug of war), try your luck at the palo enjabonado (greasy pole) or at the carrera de emgolsados (sack race). There are free workshops on folkloric dance, tango, loo, guitar, wood carving and other options where to learn and be amused. At the recova, tempting stands of regional meals  offer a wealth of choices, aming which the most tradicional are locro (corn stew), tamales, typical empanadas, alfajores, tortas fritas (fritters), and mate cocido. The characteristics of the Fair and its activities cover the interest of a wide age group public.
