The prevailing continental cold climate has a marked dry season. The parks
temperature and rainfall vary greatly from one area to another. From west
to east, from Chile to the Rio Limay there is a great variation in the
rainfall. On the other hand, temperatures drop dramatically from the low
valleys to the high peaks. These climatic differences, added to the variation
of soil, topography and geomorphology produce great changes in the flora
and fauna.
In winter the average temperature is 2º C. Summer has a maximum temperature
of 27ºC, a minimum of 9ºC with an average of 18ºC.
Autumn and winter are the rainy seasons. Puerto Blest has a total annual
rainfall of 3.000 mm while Bariloche has 1.100 mm. The prevailing winds
come from the northwest or southwest, though in autumn it is frequent
to have dry cold winds from the east.
Summer: warm sunny days, fresh nights and low rainfall with predominant
winds from the southwest. Because of the latitude it gets dark at 10 PM.
Autumn: days are cool and nights are cold. Temperatures range between
4 and 13 degrees. The rainy season begins.
Winter: Cold days with abundant snowfall. Temperatures drop to between
0ºC and -10ºC.
Spring: Cool days that gradually get longer and warmer while snow and
rainfall diminish. Nights are cold and daylight temperatures vary between
7ºC and 20ºC.
